Managing System Registry
These guides describe how to enable the use of an IDE ATA storage device with FAT12, FAT16, or FAT32 file system format as the non-volatile persistent storage for managing system registry of a Windows CE target platform. Currently supported IDE ATA devices include hard disk, Sandisk, and Disk-On-Module (DOM). With VIA's FreeBoot or "Loadcepc," restoring registry must come from the primary master like earlier releases. With VIA's Fast Boot ROM, restoring system registry may come from any device, such as the primary master, the primary slave, the secondary master, or the secondary slave, as long as being specified as the system booting device. The package provides a solution for quickly saving and restoring registry of platforms with an IDE ATA storage device. By executing a sample application program (source code included), the user is able to save the registry to the system booting ATA device. In addition, OEM's have the flexibility to modify and optimize the source code to meet their various requirements. Upon system cold boot, the integrated low-level IDE storage device I/O library functions automatically restores system registry from an IDE ATA device with previously saved registry. The package operates on any Windows CE X86-based platform using VIA's chipsets or VIA's network controllers.
