Hello folks,
I have win 7 ultimate 32 bits installed on an assus motherboard p5vd2 vm wich uses p4m890 chipset, i already tried to install vista driver and xp driver and the best I ve got was a nice blue screen  , if via doesnt want to release win 7 driver for older chipsets, so what we can do about it? guess u wanna a little bit more of our money, forcing us to buy new devices we dont need, just because u should have an arrangemant with microshit. so, never mind, i will have to buy a new video card anyway, but i will not choose via, for sure it sucks.

On the Asus site Windows 7 drivers aren't listed for your motherboard so do you blame Asus? They want you to buy Window 7 ready computer/motherboard.
You're right it has got the VIA's chipset but the two P5VD2-VM boards I found have NOT got VIA sound chip.

Are you sure it is a P5VD-VM board?:eek::eek:

Did you read this Topic here: What VIA IGP chips will have Windows 7 drivers? - VIA Forums (http://www.viaarena.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40211)
VIA is not the only one that doesn't release drivers for their older chipsets. Look at what Creative did with their sound cards and Vista.
Also, VIA no longer makes chipsets for other vendors to use. They only make EPIA boards now, so if you buy something new, it will have Intel or Nvidia or ATI onboard graphics.
It is what it is. We here have no influence on VIA, we don't work for VIA. Have you tried installing the Vista drivers using the info in the sticky above about installing drivers in compatability mode?
EDIT: Why do none of my links to threads in the Forum work????????????

I see what it is doing but I can't fix the link problem.
When sending links, turn off "Automatically parse links" in 'go advanced' features :)

Hi,
i just registered here as a member just to let others know how to get over this problem. I spent many hours trying to find a solution. I just installed Win7 on an old P4 system with a Soyo motherboard using the Via P4M890 integrated graphics chipset.
Win7 loaded up with an 8 bit graphics display and I went completely nuts trying to find a suitable Win7 graphics driver. I tried installing XP and vista drivers but each time it would tell me I have drivers for the wrong OS or something to that effect.
Here's what finally worked:
I went to Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Display Adapter -> Driver -> Update Driver.
I then opted to point Win7 to the folder which has the driver. I took it to the folder with the win2k_XP drivers that I had. Volia!! Win7 installed the VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP drivers without a hitch. I restarted the PC and was brought back from the cartoon 8bit world to the real 32bit world of graphics and colour.
I do hope this helps others in a similar predicament.
