Default Pentium III-S 1.13GHz/512K adapter for ecsP6VXA board

Does anyone know if an adapter for S-model P3 (Tualatin) is needed to work on the P6VXA ECS board? The P3 1.13GHz/256K is in the supported list but not the P3-S. Maybe it wasn't out yet, I don't know. DRDavo

AFAIK, the -S is the server CPU which runs at a different voltage than the other P3's. so, yes, you would need an adapter to keep from frying the CPU. Chris.

There were two variations of Pentium III Tualatin microprocessors. Desktop version of Pentium III Tualatin CPUs had 256 KB L2 cache. Server-class processors had 512 KB L2 cache and were branded as "Pentium III-S". The difference between desktop and server Tualatin microprocessors was not only in L2 cache size. Desktop processors didn't support dual-processing, and only Pentium III-S CPUs could work in dual-processor systems.
The above info from CPU-World. Also, as Mr Chris said, there is a voltage difference between the 2 with the S processor rated at 1.45v and the standard at 1.475v. Not a huge difference, but probably enough to cause a problem, if not immediately, then in reduced CPU life.
