Rob, when you say you have updated to the latest drivers, do you mean the VIA Hyperion drivers? Or do you mean the Nvidia drivers? If it's Nvidia, I would use the ones they recommend for that card, not brand new ones, or the ones that came on the driver CD for the card.
What version of Windows are you using? And did you get all the MS updates after you reinstalled Windows? Chris.

hi i just installed the VIA Hyperion drivers
still no joy pc still running slow
i have done the pitstop test again
2d fail again this is what they say
Video performance of this system, 9.28 megapixels per second, is significantly lower than average.
Systems with the same processor and amount of memory typically perform at a level of 57 Mp/s. Pitstop's 2D video test measures the 2D performance of the video board, which is used to draw windows, icons, and fonts on typical desktop applications such as word processors and browsers
any ideas
thanks

Go to Nvidia and see what drivers they recommend for the card. Is this card new or used? If it's used, it could be a bad card. Also, the 5xxx series of Nvidia cards were not the best. Lots of folks say the MX4xx series were better. Chris.

If you are still having an issue, I am using the FX5500 with XP Pro and the Forceware version 93.71 driver package with no speed issues even when doing heavy video editing. Sometimes the latest drivers are not necessarily the best for the card/OS combination as when I tried the latest drivers, the whole deal went to h*** in a handbasket and it took removing the new drivers and using an older package t correct the problem.

Hi;
I too have an experience with Nvidia drivers not working for the FX 5XXX series. I too have downloaded a lot of drivers but version 93.71 finally gave it a good performance. Mine was an Inno3D Geforce fx5500 256mb. The drivers in the supplied cd would nt work a gave me a "rainbow" when installed. I also heard a lot about others havingproblems with the FX 5xxx series video cards and they weren't happy about it. Some of the retailers say that was the reason why for AGP 8x/4x the only remaining cards in stock were from the FX 5xxx series because they were left out and a lot did not consider buying it due to the issues with the drivers.
If 93.71 will not work for you. You can try:
version 81.98, ver 56.72, ver 61.77. But not the new drivers.. It will not work.
Regards!

GeForce FX5200 Problem
I hate when I have to ask stupid questions, and this time is no exception. Nonetheless, I just bought a GeForce 52000 video card. In the BIOS I enabled the AGP. I can't adjust the colors so that they appear correctly. What am I doing wrong? (Incidentally, I can't find the cd for my Dell flat panel.) Can someone please help me?

If you have installed the Nvidia drivers then right click the desktop, display or screen resolution, properties and make sure it is set to 24bit and 1280x1024 or if its wide screen set to w/screen resolution.
