Hi guys, I found out the exact model, it's MS-7061 v1.
I guess I'll try to help her do the BIOS flash over the phone, she lives too far for the "good will" weekend trip

Thanks!

Ohhhhh, not really a good idea unless you have flashed a BIOS before and can tell her, step by step, what to do. Otherwise that mainboard can become a nice, shiny doorstop. Chris.

I've checked the bios updates and there doesn't seem to be an update for wide screen support, that may be the age of the MB, I would e-mail MSI and ask them about it.

I have the same problem with wide screen resulution.

Motherboard details:
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. A8V-MQ Rev 1.xx
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 0210 03/31/2006

Diplay:
VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP [Display adapter]

OS:
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

Is there a way to make wide screen work without buying new video card?

Thanks!

Ninalara, the only thing you can do is contact Asus and ask them for a custom BIOS that will enable the wide screen support.

But, as I cautioned the others in this Thread, if you do it wrong, flashing the BIOS will kill your PC. You may be better off buying a video card, these days they are cheap. Or, take the PC to a local shop.
