Default Via 3249 Raid Controller

Howdy all.
I have been searching around here a while for a solution to my problem, but nothing I have found so far has worked for me!

Today I installed a VIA 3249 (VT6421A) card into my system, which seems to be detected and working fine until I plug in a HDD. Then I get the "This device cannot start (Code 10)" message.

Have tried in different PCI slots, tried a few different versions of the drivers that I could find about here, everything I could find to update has been updated, and tried all of the sata sockets on the card with 2 different HDD's, but get the same message once one is plugged in.

Any help much appreciated!!!!!

If you are trying to run a SATA II drive on that controller card, you will have to jumper the drive to SATA I speed, or the card will not see the drive and give you that error.

Or, save the headaches (VIA will hate me for this) and get a controller card with a Promise chip.

Default Via 3249 Controller card

Does anyone know how to get this card to recognize hard drives? I've installed it correctly because it states that it's functioning properly in my device manager. However when I hook any hard drives up to it, it doesn't recognize them. I've noticed that there are jumpers on the controller card. Is there a certain way they should be set? I've even emailed Via & haven't heard anything from them, thus making this the last time I ever purchase one of their products.
