Default WEP 128 bit encryption with VT6656

I have notebook with VT6656 wireless and Windows 7 32 bit Starter onboard. I use WDS with 2 hotspot at home. I have configure it on WEP 128 bit encryption with 4 passkeys.
1)Can VT6656 work with WEP 128 bit encryption?
2) How can i configure my notebook (VT6656 card) to work with WEP 128 bit encryption to include it in my wireless network?
3) Other brands have special software to configure wireless cards, where i can configure this option. Is the same software for VT6656?

It only supports WPA : VIA Solomon VT6656 - 802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN Controller with Integrated Baseband Processor-USB 2.0 bus interface - VIA Technologies, Inc.

Unfortunately you are wrong. In this link says: Security Features
» Supports WPA and WPA 2.0; Built-in hardware security engine for 802.11i 4.0. WEP (128-bit, 64-bit), TKIP, AES CCMP.
So VT6656 can be configured in wep 128 bit encryption. How can i configure it in Win 7 32bit Starter?

Sorry, I didn't see that part. I also have never set up a wireless network, so I guess I'm not much help. But, shouldn't you be able to set all that up within Windows?

Unfortunately all Windows (XP, 7, Vista) can work with wep 64 bit encryption only by default. Also they may work with WPA, WPA2, but can't work with wep 128 bit. Hardware developers make additional software to give the chance to include the given functionality of wep 128 bit encryption. Official support at www.via.com.tw can't help me, and says that all answers in this forum.

As far as I know, you can't. Hopefully someone will see this Topic and reply. Did you try a Google search, "how to set up WEP 128 bit on VT6656"

I was attempt it at first. But the Internet does not have any answers for this problem. VIA engineers have told that VT6656 support wep 128 bits, but nobody can adjust this function. There can be they lied, and VT6656 can't work with wep 128 bit. Because of there is no additional windows software that must improve default functionality of wep 64 bit.

Just a thought, are you running any router? If you're having a router and decided to enable wep encryption. You would need to ensure the "passphrase and ssid" is the same for both wireless setting on the laptop itself as well as the router configuration page. You need to logged into the router config page and apply the wep or wpa follow by doing the same thing on your laptop wireless connection.

Fyi wep is not as secure as wpa or wpa-psk, is crackable if someone uses some utility to hack into it. But then having wep, is better than leaving it at default or open, cos by doing so anyone could logged into your router or wireless connection and misued your bandwith as well as download stuff

Lastly if you could give us the make and model of your router say if you're running one, that would helps

Test environment:
1) O.S. Windows 7 starter 32 bit.
2) Driver version 1.0.0.2
3) just driver, no additional utility or other software for this.

Wireless environment in test:
Two Asus WL-520GC with configuration:
1) WDS with WEP 128bit encryption.
2) Works as WDS+Hotspot
3) 4 different passkeys of encryption.
4) Quantity of signs in each key - is maximum as says in wep 128 bit standard (i do not remember how mach).

My other wireless devices (3 notebooks) have configuration utility, and when i wrote this 4 passkeys and SSID in it, all of they work properly, but VT6656 can't. I cannot specify 4 different keys in common Windows utility and there are not special utility for VT6656. I can wrote only one passkey by default.

I know that wep is crackable, but i have to use it because i use WDS, and WDS must have static Wep keys. My access points allow to connect known MAC adresses only. It is all what i can do for wireless security in this configuration.
I has include VT6656 card MAC in access point wiress configuration firstly. Problem is not in it.
