2 slot PCI Riser Extender jumper settings
Hello,
I have just bought a PVR 350 and use a 2 slot pci extender. I have had installed and working a Dlink DWL520 wireless network card. The network card was in slot 1. I have moved the network card to slot 2 and put PVR350 in slot1, I relaise i need to reinstall the Network card drivers again, but before i get that far I run into probs. I have checked the forums and all the issues seem to relate to adding two network cards on the PCI riser...(which ws fixed with latest bios)
when restarting It takes ages 3-5 min and then when i get into windows, the text is screwy and i cant open comport 2 (Lcd Screen). So then i change jumper setting on riser card to next position, go into bios and reset config data (ESCD) and reboot, the same thing happens, no matter what where I put the Jumper in any of its 12 postions. I have disabled the Parallel Port,Modem,2nd IDE Channel, onboard network card and Floppy to try and release enough resources . Do I need to reserve a IRQ in the bios for the network card even though it worked fine before. I am convinced the problem is the jumper settings because the only times I get both cards ready to install is when i lose Com 2 - this says to me it is in the correct position but have to change comport2 settings? is that possable. Even if you dont have the answer some sugestions would be good! or even if your using Win XP with a TV Card and network adaptor i would like to know your settings.
Bios 1.13
LCD 204-25 GW
Epia M 10000

Toshiba Travel Star 12 Gig HD
Toshiba Combo DVD/CDRW
Gyration Wireless usb mouse and keyboard
Dlink DWL-520 Wireless Network Card
PVR 350
Phillips 170w4 LCD Screen
Windows XP SP1
Thanks in advance

RE: 2 slot PCI Riser Extender jumper settings
Do you have the extender that faces the cards over the MB or away from it? I have one from Rosch that faces the cards over the MB, and it took a while to get the jumper settings correct.

RE:2 slot PCI Riser Extender jumper settings
It is the type that fits over the side of the motherboard (It looks like it will fit both ways). I bought it from Maplin in UK (Product code A44BC)and was led to beleive it was the Eipa version (it was in the Mini itx Area of their web site) I t was also supposed to come with a program on disk called PCI.EXE but that wasnt supplied! I had a look on the internet for the prog and theres about 5 or 6 different versions and i dont know which one is right. Also the instructions were crap too, one piece of paper with no clear procedures or instructions.

RE:2 slot PCI Riser Extender jumper settings
migmog,
Do you have any kind of documentation for your Rosch riser? I did not reveive any with mine (ROSCH2R-32) and
http://www.rosch-computer.de did not help either.
I'm trying to use the upper slot, and it sort of works.. linux command 'lspci -vv' finds the card but it has no IRQ.
Any help highly appreciated,
petteri

RE:2 slot PCI Riser Extender jumper settings
carrick,
I had exactly the same problem with the maplin riser in my M10000. Had a belkin wireless network card in slot1 and a PVR350 in the slot 2 (upper slot). no matter what jumper setting I tried the PVR350 would freeze/not display TV. Even diabling all COM/USB/firewire ports didn't do the trick.
After many hours of reinstalling, I ditched the Maplin PCI riser and got the proper VIA riser from LinITX.com - it worked straight out of the electrostatic bag!
As for the PCI.exe program, the POST summary provides the same information. During POST, after the 'press esc to invoke network boot menu' type message appears, a listing of IRQ allocations is displayed:
PVR350 is listed as a 'multimedia device' (same description as onboard sound )
Wireless card is listed as 'network controller'
If the IRQ (last column) is N/A, then it's likely the device will not work properly, even if XP allocates an IRQ and resources.
This listing flashes up quickly on the screen, so you need to have sharp eyes! btw POST summary messages are turned on/off in the bios if you can't see them during power up....

RE:2 slot PCI Riser Extender jumper settings
what i tend to do with irq/dma conflicts and problems (even if they're not obvious) is go into BIOS and 'Reset Configuration Data -> Both', then disable the 'Plug n Play Aware OS' then the mainboard will reset all irq allocations and set all devices attached with the appropriate IRQ settings so windows doesn't have to juggle them about
should work ok then...
