Futro S100: Power efficient and environment friendly

Fujitsu’s latest thin client is fetching a lot of interest due to its thin and fanless architecture, but the most interesting feature is its power efficiency. Last week we published the opinions of some technical experts on this thin client. Check out a few more here.

TechGadgets found its low power requirements beneficial to both customers and environment:
“This processor has been specifically designed to meet the low power requirements of today’s spirited economic settings. It also offers ultra mobile applications including the latest client and virtual workplace solutions.

The product is based on the VIA CoolStream architecture. Though it maintains a low power consumption of only 1 watt peak power and as low as 0.1 watt idle power it has the ability to speed up to 500MHz. With the incorporated VIA StepAhead technology suite it possesses a wide range of performance-enhancing features. It also makes sure that the processor’s performance is not affected by the low power consumption.”

WindowsForDevices believes that all credit for the power efficiency of the Futro S100 goes to the fanless VIA Eden processor inside it:
“According to Fujitsu, the Futro S100 ships with a 512MB solid-state internal flash drive. I/O is said to include an Ethernet port, four USB 2.0 ports, and serial and PS/2 ports. The 1.7 x 7.3 x 7.3-inch device can be mounted on the back of a monitor, says the company. Thanks in part to the Via Eden ULV, which consumes only 1 Watt peak power and as low as 100mW (0.1 watt) idle power, the device is said to consume 11 Watts at maximum load.”
